This past weekend I met a great many readers of this blog at the traveler & Adventure Show held at the new Washington, D.C. Convention Center. And I hope to meet a great many more at the Chicago Tribune traveler & Adventure Show the weekend after next, March 20 and 21. I’ll be speaking there from 11:30am to 12:30pm on Saturday, March 20, on the topic: “Traveling Better, Smarter, Cheaper in the Months Ahead;” after which I’ll be signing copies of Ask Arthur Frommer at a bookstore booth adjacent to the convention stage.
The show, sponsored by the Chicago Tribune, will be in the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center at 5555 N. River Road, Rosemont, Illinois. Directions for getting there, and for parking, can be had at www.adventureexpo.com, clicking on “Chicago” and then on “General Information.”
It was interesting to talk with readers at last weekend’s Washington, D.C., show, and I […]

Checking in after Days Four and Five, when we’ve made some decent mileage: 53 and 41 kilometers, respectively. The numbers are below our target daily average of around 60 kilometers, but we had to slow down and walk once we hit some ice rubble. As you can tell from the video, we’re incredibly tired, and it’s super cold, damp inside our tent, and windy–but we’re hanging on. We’ll be ready to get going again tomorrow.

entire trip. They’d like to finish in 10 to 12 days, which would be a
world record, according to Vallely. Why go through such trouble? To
raise awareness and funding […]
